Our Swimming Pictures

While we were in the computer suite, we decided to put our mouse skills to the test. We used a wonderful programme called 'Art Rage' and drew ourselves in the water. A big thank you to Mrs Fleming - she is a fabulous teacher aide  who helps us during computer time. How do you think we did?

Swimming

During Week 5 the year one team went by bus to the Rotorua Aquatic Centre and took part in the Unison Lake Safety Programme. We learnt lots of swimming and water safety skills.  We also had a fabulous time and developed lots of confidence in the water. After four fun filled sessions most of us could jump into the deep pool. (with our life jackets on!) A big thank you to all of our parent helpers, and to the patient tutors at the pools. You were amazing!!

Fun Friday Week 4

Today we joined forces with Room 24 and shared our Fun Friday. We have been learning to work together and remembering to give compliments to each other. We need to think about our 'kind words'.  It was really nice because we had some different activities and some new friends to share with. It was great fun.

The carpentry table was popular.

These were our own super heroes.

Sawing and drilling wood was really hard work.

There was a massive tea party going on.

Amaria had a great time dressing up.

Jordarna drew an interesting Humpty Dumpty ouside with chalk.

Bats

This week we have tried something different in writing. We are trying something new - and this links with our topic Endeavour. We read a non-fiction book about bats. We found out some interesting facts about bats, and then tried to write our first animal report. We thought we did pretty well, for a first attempt. They are very interesting creatures!

Today five people bought their lunch. Such a lot for one day in Room 25! We worked out that we had the same amount of money as our room number. This is what it looked like.

The King's Cake

Our shared big book last week was the King's Cake written by Jill Eggleton and illustrated by Jim Storey. We really enjoyed the story, and decided to make our own cake on Friday. It did not have forty six candles on it!!

Everyone was eagerly looking at the ingredients before we started measuring.

Guess who had a sneaky lick of the bowl?

We were about to taste the chocolate cake.

Fun Times on Friday

We have been learning how to work together. We have been remembering to take turns and are trying really hard to use quiet voices.

Haiden and Hunter show us their train and their house they made.

Charlotte showing us the beading she has been working on.

The Milk Colour Experiment

We are trying some new things. We put milk into a dish. We added a few drops of different food colouring. Finally we poked the colours with a toothpick to see what would happen. The toothpick had been dipped into dishwashing liquid. It was amazing - check it out!

Prime Minister Visits Westbrook School

Mr John Key - the Prime Minister of New Zealand came to our school today, along with our local member of parliament Todd McLay. We had a special assembly. The whole school performed a powhiri, and gave them a warm Westbrook welcome. Mr Key told us a story and then a little about himself. Some lucky year 6 children asked him some interesting questions, about when he was young. We didn't get to talk to him sadly, but it was nice to see him and listen to him.
