Owl Babies

Here is a video of the book for you to enjoy.

At the end of last term we read the big book "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson. It is a great story and we loved reading it together. We used lots of expression when reading it, pretending to be the characters. We enjoyed the illustrations - and especially the faces of Owl Mother, Percy, Sarah and Bill. We made our own owl baby pictures - and here they are nesting on branches in Room 25.

We used white paint and dabbed it onto black paper with little sponges. The eyes and beaks we drew with brown pastel and we used black glue for the pupils.

Owl Mother - Our Writing

We did some writing - pretending we were the Owl Mother. We used a framework to help us, using sentence starters. We tried to imagine we were her, and how she would use her senses when she was out hunting for food for her family.

I saw a sneaky fox.
I saw a shiny dragonfly.
I heard a sneaky mouse.
I wonder if my baby owls are still awake.

I saw other owls flying.
I saw a fat worm.
I heard the wind blowing the leaves.
I wonder if my babies are awake.

I saw a slippery worm.
I saw a dragonfly land.
I heard the wind blow.
I wonder if the baby owls are asleep.

I saw a grey mouse.
I saw red foxes.
I heard the wind blowing.
I wonder if the owl babies are safe.

I saw a red fox.
I saw the twinkling stars.
I heard a tiger growl.
I wonder if my babies are starving.

I saw a fat warm.
I saw a fast fox.
I heard the wind whistling through the trees.
I wonder if my babies are together.
